The four-phase admission process for industrial training institutes (ITIs) is over, with nearly 40% Seats Vacant in Government ITI in Faridabad.
Over 225 seats are still vacant in the city’s government ITIs. On-the-spot admissions, which began on August 12, will continue till August 23. With only two days left for admissions, the ITIs are releasing daily merit lists based on the available vacancies, according to an official on Wednesday.
40% Seats Vacant in Government ITI in Faridabad
Officials have blamed the fee structure for the lack of interest in ITIs, especially private ones. Government institutes charge Rs 4,000 per annum, while private ones charge between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000. “In engineering, the one-year fee is around Rs 26,000 and two-year fee is Rs 52,000.
Similarly, for non-engineering trades, the one-year fee has been fixed at Rs 21,200, while two-year fee will be Rs 42,400,” an official said. He said government ITIs were also struggling to attract students due to lack of resources and outdated equipment in their laboratories.
Admission will be given on the Spot
Officials also pointed out that companies are providing learn and earn opportunities to Class 10 graduates under the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS).
Under the Craftsman Training Scheme, companies offer two years of in-company training, a monthly salary of Rs 16,200 and an NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) certificate from the ITI. As a result, candidates are opting for direct training opportunities in companies instead of enrolling in private ITIs,” an official said.
There are around 2,274 seats in Faridabad ITI institutes located at NIT 5, Old Faridabad, Mohana, Tigaon, Sikrona and Pali.
Bhagat Singh, principal of the government ITI at NIT 5, said, “There are 484 seats in the ITI at NIT 5, and around 260 seats have been filled. Records show that more than 40% of the seats are vacant in various trades at other ITIs in the district. To fill the vacant seats, the fifth phase of the admission process has been started. Online applications were accepted from June 7 to 25, and the first admission list was released on June 28. “All government and private ITIs in Haryana are conducting on-the-spot admissions on the basis of merit by 12.30 pm daily till Friday.
Applicants have to submit their rank or merit card issued by the admission portal to the respective ITI where they wish to take admission. Any error or incorrect information filled in the online admission application form may result in denial of admission to the candidate,” said Sonia Taxak, principal of ITI Sohna, where about 227 of the 668 seats are still vacant. “The Gurgaon-based government ITI has 1,284 seats and the Mozabad-based government ITI has 376 seats. More than 10 per cent seats are still vacant in these institutes,” said an official of the technical education department.
